fried day
i’m not going to complain about this week, as much as i’d like to. i learned a lot. i got sick and then recovered. chad and i talked and laughed a lot. i met some new people. these are good things, and well worth the crap. mish and i came to the conclusion today that september 2000 has sucked harder than any other month we can remember, to date. tomorrow, the very last day of september 2000, i will be playing d&d with chad and some of our friends, and then we’ll all kiss september 2000 goodbye and hope for better months. it’s got to get better, you know?

i’m a geek because i like they might be giants. well, because of other things too, but that’s apparently a biggie. i found this out tonight from shaenon, whom i met on the ferry-ride home with jared, and … the other guy at our table whose name i didn’t catch. the four of us played “guillotine” and i was my usual quiet-in-new-groups self but i had a marvelous time. jared drove me home from the ferry terminal in larkspur and told me the story of how he came to be in san francisco, and i later retold all of this to chad at dinner while bouncing happily in my seat. chad just watched and listened, grinning across the table at my goofy expression. i think i may take the ferry home more...

“I FUCKING JUST HAD LUNCH IN THE SAME ROOM AS GEORGE LUCAS.” i wonder if george was bothered at all by the 6’5″ dude watching him eat lunch.

it is a testament to my apathy today that i could not get excited about the slide presentation on how wood veneer is made. there is a brochure sitting next to me entitled “veneer solutions: a guide to specifying wood veneers” that i haven’t even opened. today has been another overwhelmingly busy day. i am looking forward to leaving not because it’s been bad but because i am ferrying home tonight with jared, yay. then chad and i are going to take a brisk walk by the marin civic center; we get our exercise by hopping over the puddles of goose poop. my cel has recently decided to stop dealing with voicemail. sometime yesterday artless left me voicemail but it sounded like he was talking into a tin can in the midst of a tornado party, so i have...

someone just called me “weird” and i was reminded of a dream i had last night. i was in the basement of a dormitory and i entered this teeny computer science lab that also served as a hydroponics lab. where a few guys and first officer commander chakotay of the u.s.s. voyager were hanging out. (yes, he was in uniform.) i asked chakotay if he wanted to come over and watch “weird science” with me later and he said sure. then a few minutes later i overheard him telling some groupies who wandered in that he couldn’t hang out with them tonight, he was “going over to a weird friend’s room”. yeah, that’s me: the weird friend next door. i never get the sexy chakotay dreams, only the basement dormitory...

it’s nice to be so needed around a place that the moment i walk back in, i am pounced upon to “do something about the mess in the library.” it’s gotten really bad in here, and it was my fault to think that people would clean up after themselves once they got a spare moment. but everyone’s under such crazy deadlines here that spare moments don’t really exist. i cleaned off about 70% of the mess on the table and am now giving the rest of the office a chance to receive and meditate on my polite yet firm email about the disarray in the library. some folks have rushed in and put their stuff away, sheepish, which made me feel a little guilty for sending the email in the first place, but i was encouraged by my boss to be more strict...

still sick today. i guess i underestimated how sick i was yesterday. good news: felina‘s getting better. bad news: jared‘s sick now, too. since it’s really no thrill reading about my recuperation, here’s another public service announcement: please, if you can afford it, pay for your livejournal account. you’ll get some cool features plus the knowledge that you helped out a great service, as well as your name in lights. well, not lights, but nice blue text.

but i’m pretty sick. if you don’t like hearing about people being ill, stop reading this now. i left work at lunchtime because from 06:00-11:00 i had experienced more gastrointestinal chaos than anyone should have, including yet not limited to stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhea. yeah. great. my worry when this happens is that i will quickly get dehydrated, because my body even refuses to process liquids sometimes, and dehydration is some serious stuff. chad picked me up at the ferry building in larkspur and dropped me off at home, since there were no easily-accessible bus routes at lunchtime, and i drank a huge glass of water and slept (on my side, thank you) for about four hours straight. got up feeling hungover, and now chad is making dinner,...

this morning, we went to the free screening of “the exorcist” re-released with additional footage and remastered sound. short version: good movie. long version: read my review! chris and his girlfriend jody joined us, and the four of us lunched together afterwards. i can now say that chris really does have a girlfriend, and she’s nice and smart, to boot. as is the trend this weekend, i ate too much and then immediately felt like napping. but i have defeated the nap-monster, at least temporarily, and am now definitely starting laundry. really i am. if i could only focus my eyeballs …
