This one I’ve been gearing up for, since there is so much to say. Lara and I met in college through a friend of mine, who was her roommate. This friend of mine — we’ll call her Kelley — went to summer camp with me for years and years, and were closer than sisters. I still think about her, even though when she got to college, she turned into some unrecognizable person, hanging out with frat boys and getting trashed and generally scaring me on a regular basis. I should do this more often. “This” being hanging out at the Three Dollar Bill, which is the adorable little café at the San Francisco LGBT Center. They make terrific mochas and also have free wifi. What could be better? Well, I suppose if I was getting any writing done, that could be better. Instead I am distracted by the novelty of listening to Elton John. I never listen to Elton John. Not that I am not fond of his music, although I don’t really know that I am. The simple fact that I am doing something that I don’t normally do and no one is mad at me for that or requiring any explanation is so wonderful. O, Scissor Sisters on now! Hooray! Burns Nicht ’05 was lovely. The MSG and I tasted so much wonderful whisky. I was floored by the Bowmore, each sip an insanely spiced and peaty pain. And o, dark chocolate with a sip of it is just perfect. Conversation was light and intriguing, ranging from homebrewing to renaissance faires to measuring the speed of light in furlongs and fortnights to operas to technical writing. Crism really knows how to throw a party. I’m so glad I met him. Afterwards, the MSG and I realized we hadn’t really eaten dinner, so we had a quick bite at a noodle house in the Haight called Citrus Club.
