sharing the john and jim love

I should do this more often. “This” being hanging out at the Three Dollar Bill, which is the adorable little café at the San Francisco LGBT Center. They make terrific mochas and also have free wifi. What could be better?

Well, I suppose if I was getting any writing done, that could be better. Instead I am distracted by the novelty of listening to Elton John. I never listen to Elton John. Not that I am not fond of his music, although I don’t really know that I am. The simple fact that I am doing something that I don’t normally do and no one is mad at me for that or requiring any explanation is so wonderful.

O, Scissor Sisters on now! Hooray!

Okay, I have more love-sharing to do. John S and Jim S are up next.

John S is so cool because he is so participatory. He’s one of those people who just jumps right in and contributes, and I’m not even sure when that began, but it is greatly appreciated. He’s helped me improve my forums quite a bit already, and I like reading his comments to my quill entries. I hope he sticks around cygnoir.net for a long time!

Jim S and I met in college. We were cast as husband and wife in a less than brilliant play about child abuse. (It wasn’t our child being abused, for the record.) Jim is one of those people who throws himself completely, headfirst, into everything. He revels in his successes and learns from his mistakes. He is also remarkably supportive and communicates this support excellently. I wish I could keep up with his emails, but alas, I just read them and smile and hopes he knows I’m enjoying all the pings.

About Halsted M. Bernard

Halsted, a/k/a cygnoir, does stuff with words. Her favourite things to do with words are keeping this diary, writing stories, and organising information. She lives in Edinburgh with her husband, two cats, a few gadgets, several fountain pens, and many books.

OK – I normally don’t go all public with the feelings in my heart, but since Sted took the time to acknowledge me, this is her receipt with interest.

There are two words that sum up Halsted for me. The first word is brilliance. When I met her, I was a junior and she was a freshmen. But I knew in our first conversations that she was wiser and more brilliant than the years would tell. Her analytical insight into a character she played on stage impressed me, and it showed in everything she did. An insightful mind with a wealth of background knowledge and cutting edge wit grace and compliment this woman in all that she does.

(Just to point out, the play was called “Love Thy Neighbor”, and it was utter crap to do. Still, it introduced me to one of the most original and gifted thinkers in the world, so it wasn’t all bad. Uh, yeah it was… moving on…)

The second word that makes me think of Sted is mojo. This woman has mojo to spare! I have seen her walk by Republicans and give them personality in her wake. I have never known anyone to smile so sincerely, laugh out louder, or care with all of their heart the way this woman does. Anyone who meets this woman notices her charm and aura immediately. You do not forget meeting her. She is no random encounter. She is no face in the crowd. She is a spirit that moves and dances with the crowd to a beat and rhythm that eludes the common man.

I’m getting a bit too mushy for my tastes, but when it comes to such a wonderful friend, I’ll take my chances of being out of character. Sted may be across the country from me, but thanks to this great site, I get to spend some time with someone who has truly touched my life and made it a better one.

Sted, if I never say this again, I’d like to sum how I feel about you with the lyrics of the Duff McKagen penned “So Fine”…

“If you could only live my life, you could see the difference you make to me…”

I love you. You mean worlds to me. – J.
