the thing about

The thing about being an insomniac in the city is that you hear all the gritty three a.m. quarrels between lovers.

The thing about being an insomniac writer in the city is that you listen.

It would seem oxymoronic to call them lovers.

I know just waht you mean, except that where I live all I hear are dogs barking. I went to sleep sometime after 3:30am and was up by 6:20am

Does that make being a writer sort of like being a spy or a private detective. How “Pulp Fiction”! … ;-) … Our intrepid operative, code named Black Swan, getting the goods on her unsuspecting fellow tenants. … lol

i try to listen to my neighbours’ quarrels, but they’re northern irish so it begins to hurt my head after a while.

If suffering from insomnia, try getting a Temp-R-Pedic mattress cover. I picked one up from Sam’s Club a few months ago, and it really has made a difference. I can even sleep through my sex crazed downstairs neighbors downstairs through one of their romps. Not to be judgmental, but… damn!

    “I am walking
    out in the rain
and I am listening to the low moan
    of the dial tone again
    and I am getting
    nowhere with you
and I can’t let it go
    and I can’t get through…
the old woman behind the pink curtains
    and the closed door
    on the first floor
she’s listening through the air shaft
to see how long our swan song can last
    and both hands
    now use both hands
oh, no don’t close your eyes
    I am writing
    graffitti on your body
I am drawing the story of
    how hard we tried…”

    – Both Hands (Ani DiFranco)
