username, why I hardly

All of the careful scheduling of student assistants I did for the first week of the semester is shot to hell, because half of the students didn’t update their class schedules in the software I use, and the other half had class schedule changes within the past week. However, I did accomplish one thing just now: all you wonderful LiveJournal folks can now use your LJ usernames to comment on my entries instead of signing up for TypeKey usernames. (You still have to come on over to my site to do it, though.) And with this, I gallop into the three-day weekend, mildly victorious.

dear petty girl on the plane

You know, this “best of craigslist” post might be funny to me if it didn’t perfectly exemplify a trait I abhor that seems to be more prevalent with each passing day. If you’re going to discriminate against someone, or a group of someones, be honest about it. Don’t be all fake-nice and state things like “i by no means hate fat people” in the middle of a rant about a fat person who deigned to sit next to you on a plane and inconvenienced you by forcing you — o, the injustice! — to interact with her in order to move your seat back. Did that happen, what, a total of twice? Three times? In over nine hours of flying? What, did just being near a fat person make you so insecure about your own vanity that you...

dear mobile phone user

Dear Mobile Phone User: Shut. Up. I do not want to hear about your new shoe purchases. I do not want to hear about how you can’t believe what a dickhead that manager was to you in that one meeting. I do not want to hear about how no he di-int, o yes he di-id. I do not want to hear your vapid, codependent rambling, period. You may think that these things are important, but I can assure you, I do not give one iota of one shit about your life, just like you so obviously do not give one about mine. The difference between us is I’m not force-feeding my daily melodrama into your precious little eardrums. Here is what I want: I want to live my life without listening to you talk on the phone. I want to ride the bus and be able to concentrate on the book I am...

stikipad: whoa.

Last weekend, the MSG turned to me and said, “You are the most web-gadgety person I know.” Since he works in software, I consider this an accomplishment. A sick, sad accomplishment, but hey, I’ll take what I can get. I leap on the new website bandwagons as early as possible, not because I’m compulsive or anything … wait, yes, I am. But it’s more my curiosity than my compulsion. I want to try new things. I want to break new things. I want new things to surprise me and make me go “whoa” just like Keanu. Right before I break them. Sometimes people suffer because of my pursuit of the whoa. Because of me, Inkbot failed her saving throw against the online doll maker and spent multiple hours creating her friends in...
