johari/nohari
The last time I fiddled with a Johari window, I was in grade school. It’ll be a bit different now. Please take a moment to contribute to my Johari window. And because I want to know the negatives along with the positives, please contribute to my Nohari window as well.

Newsvine Kind of like CommonTimes.org, kind of like digg.com … read news stories, write your own, and seed stories you read elsewhere. I like the design, and it’s fast, and offers ad revenue from writing your own column. (tags: news)

I am a designing a program. This program will be fully compliant with the Ajax Web 2.0, able to run on PCs, Macs, Intel Macs, Blackberries, Palms, mobile phones and WebTV. This program will include a fully-functional email client that has completely customizable templates, stylesheets, and themes so as to obviate the need for actual content. This program will also include a calendar. This calendar will automagically update with all of my friends’ calendars, whether or not they have updated their calendars and whether or not we are still on speaking terms. Additionally, this program will include a super-fast, super-efficient RSS reader, so I can quickly become overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information available to me. Optional yet free modules available...
Read Morearchive the homeless
I see the homeless conspiracy-theorist peeps wandering my ‘hood and all I can think about is how disorganized their office products look. Bits of tattered legal pads fluttering out the sides of worn manila folders. I bet nothing’s even cross-referenced, which simply will not do. Most conspiracy theories are connected in some way, like the giant squid overlords possessing Oswald, just like Nostradamus said they would. Someone needs to archive the homeless people. When they die, all their wisdom is lost. I care because I work with upper-middle-class college students all day long, and 99% of them pride themselves on learning absolutely nothing. They’re not furthering society, believe me; it’s the homeless people who are on the front...

Whew, I got it. Perspective, once hard-won (or not) after years of trial and error, is now something I can gain from a quick traipse through my cyberhood. I love that we’re all going through bullshit and writing about going through bullshit and commenting on how other people are going through bullshit and obsessively checking our email or RSS reader or IM client. That’s not a sarcastic “love”, either. It’s extremely helpful to know that none of us are as special or as unique as we think we are: that I, just like you, have really petty yet entertaining hang-ups and worries and we can all get over them eventually. (Hear that? We can.) What drives me a little nuts is when I read posts from people that are contentless, plaintive cries...
Read Moreextremely awesome
Extremely awesome things about my life today: Not to be clichéd, but it’s Friday. Beth sent me chocolate. From England. Cadbury’s Fruit and Nut. And there is still some left. I got to help a Japanese student set up a wireless connection on his laptop. Don’t ask me how we did it; he barely spoke any English and I no Japanese, but we pointed and grunted and nodded and I think I recognized some characters even though I’ve had almost no exposure to kanji. My inner linguist is very glowy. I somehow managed to get all the students and the irregulars out of the Library by 17:07 on a Friday. This is quite a feat, especially since both the Bride (so named after the Bride of Frankenstein) and the Disk Warrior (so named because she saves...

Does anyone know of a company within San Francisco that makes sandalwood incense? I bought some a while back that was just perfect, and I remember the package had a little … um … guy on it. A guy with religious significance, I’m sure. With a San Francisco address underneath him. I would return to where I bought it, but it’s a store full of crystal dildoes and I’m hesitant. I also just this second realized that the store has a not-so-subtly sexual name, and by that, I mean it’s like For the Love of [Eastern euphemism for girl-parts]. ecto tells me I’m misspelling “dildoes” but that’s just a lie.
