NPR fangirls

My mom took me to see “Wait Wait — Don’t Tell Me” last night. We laughed for two hours straight. If you live in or near Chicago, you should go. If you don’t, listen to the show this Saturday (or to the podcast after 19:00 EST Sunday) and you might hear us cackling. O yeah, and I got autographs from Roxanne Roberts, Paula Poundstone, and Peter Sagal, who likes my Visconti fountain pen. Of course he does, because he is awesome.

We have done ridiculous amounts (i.e. more than 15 minutes) of shopping for proper corporate clothing since I got here. I discovered the designer Eileen Fisher, who makes clothes that look good on short, lumpy me, so now she is my new favorite designer. Not like I know any other ones, except for Isaac Mizrahi, who was insanely funny on “Wait Wait”.

… I’m a dork, aren’t I?

About Halsted M. Bernard

Halsted, a/k/a cygnoir, does stuff with words. Her favourite things to do with words are keeping this diary, writing stories, and organising information. She lives in Edinburgh with her husband, two cats, a few gadgets, several fountain pens, and many books.

You know, if I had known you were in town, I’d have suggested getting together at some point. How long are you around for?

  • Lara Beeson

The only thing I might be inclined to say you are a dork for, is potentially calling yourself lumpy… If you are lumpy; I shudder to think what that might qualify me as in the grand scheme of things.

The rest sounds like wonderful fun.

I had to go shopping too, but not for corporate wear necessarily, and I realized how much I do not really enjoy it enough to do very often. But, I did manage to buy my first new pair of jeans — that actually fit in a respectable way in over a decade or so.

    Wait Wait–Don’t Tell Me!!!

I *lurve* this show. I’ve managed to make stri into a fan as well, so we’ve been listening to it in the car when we drive somewhere.

    So, so, very funny.

I used to listen to that show every Sat. with my ex-husband. The current boy hates the NPR Sat. lineup, so I don’t get it in. He is taking me to see Garrison Keillor Tuesday evening though. Yay!!! I love that man! :)

I download the podcast of Wait Wait religiously every week and listen to it while commuting, or just sitting at home knitting. Sometimes more than once. I am so happy podcasts came into existence before I decided to live abroad. I don’t feel quite so disconnected from life at ‘home’. My other favorite podcasts are On The Media, a weekly hour-long radio show from WNYC on the effect of media in society, and On Point, a daily talk show from NPR. But Wait Wait is the best.
