you’ll shoot your eye out

And here we are in the long, guilt-ridden march until December 25th, this soggy parade of indiscriminating materialism during which I am miserably certain that I will buy each person in my life exactly what she doesn’t want or need, thus creating the dreaded re-gifting scenario that haunts my listless dreams. That said, I want a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi and don’t tell me that I’ll shoot my eye out! Thanksgiving and the day after were quite peaceful, filled with delicious food and good company and absolutely no shopping. Today we continue the holiday with the other half of the MSG‘s family. Eating as celebration makes me very happy, as you might have guessed. Does anyone know of a computer game that is like Myst plus Little Computer...

plausible gullibility

What’s the worst about waking up from a plausible nightmare is that you don’t know if what woke you up is real or not, not yet, not for hours. This is the opposite of grasping at the warm, bright things that wisp away as soon as you think of them, still glowing, the next morning. This is the hand you wish you hadn’t felt on your throat as you gasped and choked awake in the dark. So which is worse: insomnia or nightmares?

simulated humility

Work overwhelmed me this week. For the first time since I started, I felt like maybe I had made a mistake, like I was losing my grip not because I was new but because I really couldn’t do it. And just when I was feeling so proud of myself for pushing myself outside my comfort zone, and for dealing with instances in which I didn’t immediately know how to do something or where to find something. Then this week happened, and I’d like to chalk it up to the final push of Mercury in retrograde but really it was that pause between being new and being a full-fledged part of something. This is a good time to learn some humility. ._.-. My second course of antibiotics is now complete, which means that if I don’t feel better by Monday I’m...

be silly

We are in bed this morning, planning out our day — café, market, lunch, pharmacy, grocery — and the MSG inserts “getting you flowers” at the pharmacy point. I say something like “don’t be silly” and move on, promptly forgetting about this. He brings it up in the car, again, when I go over the game-plan. I reiterate the “don’t be silly” and forget again. The pharmacy is inside my HMO, which is a big place appropriately filled with sick and cranky people. I am also sick and cranky, because the illness of a few weeks ago has decided to hang on, despite my best efforts to vanquish it. So I run in while the MSG drives around the block, find out that my prescription will take another 15 minutes, and...

skype scrape

That last post was a little snotty, and I apologize. I’m just tired of listening to people bitch and whine and then not vote. It makes no sense to me. Anyway, I am trying not to hold my breath over Prop 85, so I’ll write about something else. The MSG and I celebrated our third anniversary up the coast. We relaxed, cooked, read, played games, hiked, watched DVDs and still found time to take some photos. Last Thursday we got back to the grind, which for me has been only a little grindy. More of a scrapey, really. Socially, it’s been gravy. I also got my free Skype Moo MiniCards in the mail. Because my scanner mysteriously decided to start working again tonight, I can share these cuties with you. It’s unfortunate that, despite...

vote today

TalkLeft said it best: “We get the Government we elect.” San Franciscans, I recommend Smart Voter. Californians, I recommend the 2006 California Progressive Voter Guide. And Americans, just get off your whiny, self-aggrandizing asses and vote.
