Dear Lazyweb:

Do you know of any experienced, inexpensive, and reliable movers for a cross-SF move? My usual movers are booked on 3 May, and I am morose, bereft, etc.

FunkyPlaid mentioned something that sounded like “renting a truck” and “doing it ourselves” but I think he fell down and hit his head because I cannot drive trucks and I have the lifting power of a piece of arugula.

All non-Yelp recommendations will be gratefully welcomed. Cheers!

I can’t remember who moved me into my last place, though they were good. I can tell you, unreservedly, don’t even THINK of calling Starving Students! When my former-roommate and I moved from SF to Alameda, they were so unmotivated and incompetent that we ended up carrying a bunch of our stuff down to the truck ourselves. AND they managed to lose some chairs.

I moved with One Big Man and One Big Truck. It was actually two normal-sized men and one average sized truck, but whatever. They were pretty good, actually.

Not living in SF, I have no idea, I just wanted to say love the redesign! I haven’t been onto your actual site in a while so this is the first I’ve seen it.

I used Aaron’s Moving when I moved across Mountain View. They well may do SF as well, check them out at http://www.aaronsmoving.com/

Three hour minimum, I think it was a hundred an hour, but they were quick, professional, and even reassembled my bed. If you plan to tip, and I expect you would, have a tip that’s divisible by two without ripping sounds. :)

Lots of my clients and several contractors I work with use Johnson and Daly.

I was happy with Delancey Street Movers when I moved to Berkeley back in 2000.

May 3? MAY 3?! :D
Nice choice in dates, m’dear. :) I’m getting married that day — clearly a romantic day for everyone!

Umm, maybe May 4th?
:)
Good luck! xo

We had very good luck for a multi-step move from the SoBay to San Francisco with Eastern Moving three years ago. They’re here in the city. 1-888-884-8892. Note all the lucky 8s. Chinese company :-) Also 415-290-9476. We used them three separate days (a complicated move, you betcha). We didn’t always get the same guys but they =always= had at least one guy who was fairly fluent in English.

His nibs found them via Craigslist. I assume they’re still in business and at those numbers.

[...] other news, thank you for your comments on my upcoming move. We’re going to do it ourselves after all, with, to quote a famous band, a little help from [...]
