  1. I started to open this reply with “your grammar sucks” just as a joke, but I’m afraid someone might take me seriously and an angry legion of Halstedites would smite me or something 🙂

Seriously, I just thought I’d offer a virtual *hug* as you enter the final phase of your move.

And for what its worth, I didn’t watch the video either. In addition, I thought the response of the American press was very morbid and unprofessional…”Gee, this guy just got his head whacked off…let’s go surround his parents with cameras”.

  2. That sounded exactly like the contents of my head when I wake up at five in the morning. “I’m panicking… oh, that reminds me of a joke! That WAS funny… I wonder why the cats are awake this early; perhaps I should check their water dish… OH MY GOD THE FUTURE WHAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN TO ME IN THE FUTURE?”

I’m going to be leaving my little apartment soon, too, and I find the idea upsetting for no reason I can figure out. The place was never intended to be anything more than a stopgap haven.

  3. not a snotophile either. interesting to hear your actual voice for the first time.
you sound down on yourself for the fact that you don’t like kids or that you don’t want to take responsibility for (too many) other organisms – I think this actually makes you rare, special, and honest. I remember I first took notice of you because of some comment about innocence and cookies … I think taking care of the child within can be just as important a virtue as nurturing the child without. anyway …

  5. I used to love walking around the bay area in the mornings, before anyone was up. The novelty of it all, the sound of the streetsweepers. The sense of movement, anticipation, which if I reflected on at length, would only leave me wondering where my melancholy life was really headed.

You are a gorgeous writer, Halsted. What a curse. 🙂
