so not a turkey

I can’t believe this movie slipped past me.

“Pieces of April” is astounding. I mean it. If you like movies like “Garden State” and “Lost in Translation”, you will like this movie, regardless of how you feel about Katie Holmes. Peter Hedges wrote and directed; he also wrote “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” and “About a Boy”.

I am so glad that I pay attention to trailers, because nine times out of ten, I end up liking the ones I see before movies that really blow me away. The trailer for “Pieces of April” was a bit precious, so I figured I was taking a chance on it when adding it to my Netflix queue, but as it turns out the trailer was just edited that way.

This is a great film to see just before Thanksgiving, too, because it’s about a Thanksgiving dinner. Go, rent, watch!

  1. Peter Hedges didn’t write About a Boy as such. It’s based on a novel by Nick Hornby and, looking at the IMDB entry, it appears as if Hedges wrote a screenplay which was then re-written by Chris and Paul Weitz, the directors.

  2. Funny you should mention this…I finally put this in my queue last week after my wife telling me for a year that she wanted to see it. Maybe I should move it up because right now it is like 19th or something.

  3. I was looking for a movie to rent on this icky rain mixed with snow day in Chicago & now I will rent this. And yes, there are people who usually don’t like Katie Holmes.
