A song a day, day 6: a song that reminds you of somewhere.

Standard

From the song a day meme: a song that reminds you of somewhere.

A song about December 1963 reminds me of July 1992. But that’s okay, because music bends time like that.

I had just moved back to Pennsylvania and was warmly accepted by a group of incredible people I will never forget. One of these people made me a mixtape and this song was on it. It was the first time I had ever heard it. I used to blast this while driving at night, marveling at how dark it could get so far from any city. Everything smelled like hay and nothing smelled like exhaust. But I was born here, I had lived here before, so while it was so strange it was also so familiar. The lyrics to this meant something and nothing all at once. Just like me.

  1. I did a Christmas parody of this song once. It started "Oh what a night, late December back in 4 B.C., some baby started Christianity, what a baby what a night." There was more, but it's probably for the best that I can't remember it.
